Train Strain

The was a logo used a while back here in the UK by one of the train companies “let the train take the strain”.

Sounds cool right?

and admit I enjoy travelling by train, it’s an opportunity to sit back, relax and read a book, listen to some music, or mess around n the laptop, right?

not always…

I was travelling on a train few months ago on a either a friday or saturday afternoon and the train was full of a lot of “happy” sports fans, many of who were still working on being “happy” and I realised that I wasn’t keen on the idea of having “happy” spilt all over my laptop. It was one of those occaisions when you’re really glad that mp3 players were invented, you can just plug in and be in your own little world for the journey.

This weekend I had a “work” seminar to attend in Coventry and travelled up on Thursday afteroon. The journey there was great, the train wasn’t packed, I got a seat and there were no delays, so I was kind of expecting the same for the joureny back on Sunday.

I’d forgotten that Sunday is not only one of the busiest days of the week for travelling, it’s also when repairs get done to the tracks, so when I got to Birmingham New Street I was a little miffed to find that I was going to have to get a bus instead, which would add an extra 45 mins to the journey.

The funniest part was that as we were coming back in to Cheltenham the driver asked whether anyone could actually give him directions to Cheltenham train station as he didn’t know how to get there…

Once I’d finished laughing I helped the poor guy out, after all, I didn’t want to spend any more time on the bus than I absolutely had to.
